About The JobMed Star Health is looking for a Peer Recovery Coach II to join our team at Med Star Franklin Square Hospital. We are looking for a certified Peer Recovery Specialist with excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to relate to patients and health professionals, and to develop professional working relationships with partner agencies.
The Peer Recovery Coach II will provide non‑clinical services intended to aid patients in establishing recovery from high risk of dependent alcohol and drug use problems. The role works with a team at a Med Star Health Facility that provides peer support and motivation to encourage patients who are seeking treatment for alcohol or drug dependency and addiction issues. The coach assists in completing referrals to treatment services and developing service plans to promote successful linkage to treatment services.
Services will be provided in the Med Star Health Facility with appropriate follow‑up.

Primary Duties- Acts as peer support throughout the hospitalization and post‑discharge, as appropriate to attain goals. Acts as a resource to other clinical team members on recovery support. Assist patients and family with understanding how to utilize these community services. Assists patients in linking to community support services and substance treatment services, including securing appointments and transportation.
- Completes required documentation and other reports. Conducts brief interventions to patients that screen positive for alcohol and/or drug use. Consults with nursing staff and social work as requested, even if the patient does not screen positive.
- Identifies patient’s history of drug/alcohol use, treatment history, motivation to change behavior, and other needs for community support services. Identifies patient’s readiness to change and uses motivational interviewing techniques and other communication skills to support a plan for reducing or eliminating harmful drug and/or alcohol use.
- Models coping techniques and self‑help strategies. Notifies patient’s nurse before visiting the patient. Participates in training to continually gain new skills.
- Staffs community events and activities as needed.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Peer Recovery Specialist Certification by the State of Maryland or the District of Columbia.
- Related experience as a peer recovery coach.
- Must be actively engaged in his/her own recovery program with a minimum of three years demonstrated personal recovery and sustained abstinence from alcohol and/or drug use with no relapses.
- Residency within the target population preferred.
This position has a hiring range of USD $22.48 - $39.75 per hour.
