Emergency Room Technician II, Full-time (7a-7p) at GBMC Health Care.
Responsibilities- Under general supervision, perform operational tasks related to the admission of inpatients and outpatients in the Emergency Department.
- Escort patients from the general waiting room to the ED and to radiological areas when necessary.
- Replenish clinical supplies, ensure supply levels meet departmental expectations, and check clinical carts and other care items as assigned.
- Participate in promoting efficient flow of the multi-unit environment.
- Under general supervision of the RN or MD, provide clinical/clerical/supply support to unit staff in the care of patients and families.
- Complete necessary elements of triage documentation including vital signs, venous access, phlebotomy, and oxygen placement under RN direction and according to triage guidelines.
- Complete repeat vital signs and pain documentation for patients in the waiting area and main ED as instructed by the RN.
- Maintain patient flow as directed and communicate plan of care related to ED process with patients and families.
- Assist with cleaning ED rooms and report abnormal vitals to RN staff.
- Perform blood glucose testing and report abnormal results to RN/MD.
- Draw peripheral blood and insert Peripheral Intravenous Catheters under RN/MD direction; record in EHR.
- Document procedures in EHR.
- Complete EKG's as necessary and report results to RN/MD and transmit.
- Follow the basic process for submission/requisition of lab specimens.
- Appropriately label specimens for laboratory testing at the bedside.
- Perform oral suctioning using Yankauer and empty drainage.
- Drop off and pick up specimens at the Blood Bank as necessary.
- Assist with transfer of patients or assist ambulatory patients.
- Place patients on monitor as directed, respond to monitor alarms.
- Obtain vital signs and pain level as directed by RN and report all abnormal results to RN/MD.
- Set up laceration sterile trays.
- Perform purposeful rounding using the AIDET process.
- Assist with transporting patients under direction or supervision of a registered nurse, including emergency situations.
- Stock patients' rooms and treatment centers with appropriate supplies.
- Provide family and patient support.
- Perform post mortem care as necessary.
- Perform inventory and complete clothing sheet for all crisis patients and admissions.
- Clean, sanitize, and prepare exam rooms and equipment for the next patient.
High school or GED. Graduate from an accredited Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Cardiac Rescue Technician (CRT), or Paramedic program.
Licensure- Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Cardiac Rescue Technician (CRT), or Paramedic.
- Current and valid CPR Certification.
- Certified Nursing Assistant Certification.
Minimum of at least two (2) years’ experience in the Emergency/Pediatric Technician role or related field.
Skills- Thorough knowledge and understanding of the defined triage criteria, including all levels of care and complaints treated within urgent care versus emergent care.
- Skill in customer service techniques.
- Skill in using computers.
- Skill in data analysis to gather and update statistics, logs, records and reports.
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize.
- Courteous and compassionate interpersonal skills necessary to interact with patients, visitors, physicians, and other staff.
- Skill in problem solving.
- Ability to anticipate and prioritize needs of patients and staff and multitask in stressful situations autonomously.
- Thorough knowledge of role expectations and scope of practice.
- Ability to partner with RN/MD staff.
- Knowledge in medical terminology.
- Ability to precept others.
Ability to walk and stand up to ninety percent (90%) of work time and lift and position patients.
Working Conditions- Normal patient care environment with potential exposure to excessive noise, dust, temperature, and the like.
- Clinical environment with potential for rapid change and varied levels of stress with exposure to unpleasant conditions.
$19.34 - $29.00 (final salary offer will be based on the candidate's qualifications, education, experience and alignment with our organizational needs.)
