Clinic Teaching Fellow – Immigrant Rights/Immigrant Justice Clinic
Join the National Legal Aid & Defender Association for a 3‑year clinical teaching fellowship in its Immigrant Rights/Immigrant Justice Clinic. The fellowship begins on or about July 1, 2026.
OverviewThe clinic represents low‑income immigrants in direct client representation and immigration policy work. Students provide community outreach, including hospital consultations and community education. Fellows train and mentor practicing attorneys transitioning into clinical teaching.
Responsibilities- Develop and lead seminars; facilitate supervision meetings with student attorneys.
- Perform case coverage during summer and winter breaks.
- Focus on teaching and legal scholarship over the three‑year tenure.
- Support fellows on the clinical teaching job market during the third year.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- At least two years of experience as a practicing lawyer in immigration law, including defensive and affirmative work.
- Strong academic record or other indicators of high performance ability.
- Commitment to serve low‑income and immigrant clients; strong interest in teaching.
- Member in good standing with the Maryland Bar or another state bar, willing to complete required documentation for student supervision.
- Spanish proficiency not required but strongly preferred.
- Salary: $70,000 per year.
- Full benefits package: retirement, research support, travel allowance for conferences, health, life, prescription, dental, tuition remission, paid leave (22 days annual, 15 sick, 3 personal, 14–15 holidays).
