The Attorney General is the chief legal officer of the State of Maryland. The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) has the general charge, supervision, and direction of the State’s legal business, acting as legal advisors and representatives of the major agencies, various boards, commissions, officials, and institutions of State Government. The OAG also protects the public by civil enforcement of antitrust, civil rights, consumer protection, and securities laws and regulations and by the prosecution of organized crime, Medicaid fraud, environmental crimes, insurance fraud, state tax evasion, and other statutorily assigned matters.
As Maryland’s 47th Attorney General, Anthony G. Brown leads the Office with a critical focus on equity, justice, and fairness.
The Office of the Attorney General is seeking a law clerk to support its legal team serving the Maryland Department of Emergency Management (MDEM). This is a remote, unpaid position offering flexible hours and a unique opportunity to gain hands‑on legal experience in a dynamic and impactful area of public service.
Responsibilities- Conduct legal research on case law, statutes, and regulations at the local, state, and federal levels
- Draft legal memoranda, correspondence, and other documents
- Assist with legal projects involving:
- Business contracts
- Human Resources and EEO matters
- Ethics compliance
- Grants and loans
- Maryland Code and COMAR
- Federal and emergency management law
- Litigation support
- Participate in training and networking opportunities offered through the Office of the Attorney General
- Potential to develop a writing sample during the clerkship
- Highly organized and self‑motivated
- Strong legal research and writing skills
- Proficient in Westlaw and Google Docs
- Interest or experience in emergency management, administrative law, or public service
- Offer letters will be sent out by April 24, 2026
- Summer 2026 start dates are May 18, June 1, & June 8, 2026
- Summer 2026 end dates are August 14 - 31, 2026
