Fleet Maintenance Manager
Overview
Johns Hopkins University Public Safety (JHPS) is seeking a highly motivated individual to work as the Fleet Manager. The Fleet Manager performs daily management and control of the fleet system for the Johns Hopkins Public Safety and Police Department.
Responsibilities- Manages the lifecycle of the vehicles from acquisition to disposal; and provides analytics and analysis to assist in making informed decisions related to fleet transactions.
- Manages vehicle inventories and utilization.
- Controls downtime across both mechanical and damage incidents.
- Expands the use of technology in fleet operations, especially fleet management software.
- Develops standard operating procedures for vehicle use, maintenance, and safety.
- Develops and implements Continuous Improvement projects to improve fleet performance.
- Explores and implements new fleet technologies.
- Manages a variety of fleet and operationally related special projects.
- Continually expands the use of data and reporting to optimize decision making for fleet management.
- Oversees the procurement, buying and selling equipment, including leased vehicles, with direction from Sr. Director of Finance and Administration.
- Performs PO reviews and approvals, with direction from Sr. Director of Finance and Administration.
- Facilitates the assignment and transfer of all fleet vehicles.
- Approves all rental, lease, and vehicle alteration requests.
- Ensures that all vehicles and equipment are appropriately funded for accurate invoicing.
- Provides direction and guidance on DOT-regulated vehicle operations to include, annual license and registration renewals, endorsement verification, federally mandated training, equipment/vehicle inspections, and recordkeeping.
- Monitors and advises Managers regarding lifecycle and repair determinations for Fleet Vehicles.
- Oversees the comprehensive maintenance program to guide and facilitate safe, economical fleet operations.
- Develops a Fleet strategic plan to minimize vehicle total life operating costs.
- Negotiate and manage vendor service contracts and relationships to ensure vehicles are properly maintained, repaired and cleaned.
- Knowledge of law enforcement.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including an ability to work independently and in a team setting.
- Efficient, organized work style and an ability to prioritize quickly and confidently and manage multiple deadlines.
- Knowledge of fleet management systems.
- Associates’ Degree from an accredited college or university in a related field.
- Five (5) years of work experience in fleet management.
- Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
- Fleet management experience within a law enforcement agency.

The referenced base salary range represents the low and high end of Johns Hopkins University’s salary range for this position. Not all candidates will be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. Exact salary will ultimately depend on multiple factors, which may include the successful candidate's geographic location, skills, work experience, market conditions, education/training and other qualifications.
