Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI) is a global non‑profit organization that aims to make dignified, healthy and affordable housing accessible to all. Habitat for Humanity Hungary is an established National Organization (NO) which improves access to dignified, affordable and energy‑efficient housing for low‑income families by renovating homes, supporting vulnerable households, developing innovative housing models together with municipalities, and advocating for systemic policy change in Hungary’s housing sector.

The Director will hold the overall responsibility and accountability for the strategic, programmatic, financial, HR and operational management of Habitat for Humanity’s work in Hungary and will lead a team of 14 dedicated professionals in our National Organization. This is a unique opportunity to provide overall vision and organizational leadership, driving our national organization’s goals in alignment with our regional and global HFHI strategy.

This position is based in Budapest, Hungary.

What would be your responsibilities?

Leadership and Strategy

• Lead organizational strategy development and execution in alignment with organization’s global strategy and regional Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) strategy

• Ensure that Habitat for Humanity (HFH) Hungary complies with HFHI global operating and program standards

• Lead the development of an annual plan of action and schedule regular reviews

• Lead, inspire and support the national team to execute Habitat’s common vision and collectively contribute to the strategy.

• Lead and facilitate meetings of the National Organization’s leadership team, ensure timely implementation of its decisions, and act as the primary liaison between the Supervisory Board and staff

Program Development and Implementation

• Develop an effective and balanced portfolio of housing & shelter programs relevant to the affordable housing needs in Hungary to achieve program scale, stability, and sustainability growth goals in alignment with organization’s principles and core values

• Ensure that programs are developed in accordance with HFH Hungary strategy and the HFHI Standards of Excellence and other applicable HFHI policies, standards and guidelines;

• Ensure that all programs are successfully completed and in a timely manner, achieving their goals in a measurable way

• Identify and develop partnerships with relevant housing stakeholders at national and local (municipal) level

Resource Development, Communications, and Advocacy

• Ensure the development and mobilization of sufficient resources to achieve the organization’s strategic and business objectives

• Lead the development and implementation of a comprehensive resource development strategy, in collaboration with the national team and with the support of HFHI global functions

• Oversee development and implementation of a communications strategy together with staff to promote the program and our brand

• Oversee the development and implementation of an advocacy strategy

• Represent the organization in mass media and maintain effective relations with all stakeholders, including government officials, donors and sponsors, partners and homeowners, and the public at large

Team Development

• Recruit, onboard and drive the professional development of our staff members

• Develop, implement, and maintain an effective organizational structure and coordination system aligned with HFHI global guidelines and the national labor code.

• Stimulate high performance of staff by providing overall direction, motivation, support and implementation of equitable HR systems and effective training programs to invest in and retain quality personnel and supervise performance through documented quarterly appraisals

Legal and Finance

• Ensure organization’s compliance with national legal and tax requirements and international agreements
