The primary role of the Maintenance Sr. Planner is to improve work force productivity and work quality through prevention of potential delays and obstacles through proper planning and coordination of parts, machine time and labor. The Sr. Planner is responsible for the planning of all maintenance work performed in both the area to which he/she is assigned, but also to oversee, coach and develop other Planners.
He/she is the primary liaison (coordinator) between the operations and maintenance organizations concerning planned work, both during runtime and scheduled downtime. This role also ensures appropriate files, records, and data to produce meaningful analysis and reporting of results and work done.
- Principal contact between the Maintenance department and the operations teams (refinery and packaging)
- Works with the other planners, coaching, evaluating and addressing performance issues and conflicts, to improve overall team performance
- Assures the work requested is needed and prioritized based on the business risk.
- Ensures safety needs are given a top priority in work planning.
- Recommends equipment to be included in preventive maintenance programs.
- Leads weekly meetings with Operations and Maintenance to discuss short-term and long-term maintenance needs.
- Receives approved work requests from requesting departments.
- Reviews and screens work requests for clarity. Discusses the details with the requestor as appropriate.
- Examines requests and determines best way to accomplish the work. Consults with requester, Maintenance Supervisor, Engineering or functional crews when necessary.
- Obtains blueprints, drawings, instructional manuals and special procedures, as needed. Makes any additional sketches, diagrams, etc., necessary to clarify the intent of the work order.
- Arranges any safety permits, hot work, confined space, etc. as part of a work package.
- Estimates jobs with sequence of steps, the number of tradespersons and required labor hours for each step.
- Identifies and obtains determinable materials and critical items, entering material needs on the work order.
- Verifies the availability of parts, materials and special tools required for job execution prior to scheduling.
- Coordinates requisition of all predetermined parts, materials and special tools – and prepare complete kits
- Assembles work package documentation and delivers to area maintenance supervisors.
- Reviews KPI’s for Planners, creates action plans and develops processes for continuous improvement/development
- Maintains backlog files of work orders waiting on planning and/or scheduling in accordance with their priorities and an estimated completion date.
- Ensure completed schedules and work orders are returned and reviewed timely. Monitor work order progress, compliance, and schedule. Evaluate performance metrics and develop action plans. Provides all documents for reporting and closeout.
- Develops a file of standard job plans for regularly recurring repair jobs (reference).
- Reviews the actual labor expended and material consumed versus estimated labor and material for completed jobs with Maintenance Supervisors and provides variance reports to stakeholders.
- 3+years of maintenance planning and scheduling preferred
- Previous experience within a manufacturing environment with multiple crafts (mechanical, electrical, etc.) required
- Maintenance scheduling, planning and use of CMMS or ERP required
- High school diploma or GED required
