Job Summary

Health Net is seeking a dedicated Nurse Midwife to promote excellence in clinical practice across antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum, and well‑woman care, as well as education, consultancy services, and clinical research. This exempt position includes both outpatient and inpatient responsibilities under the Indiana Nurse Practice Act.

Sign‑On Bonus & Salary

$15,000 SIGN ON BONUS

Pay based on experience; salary starting at $115,700 per year.

Clinical Responsibilities
  • Provide full‑scope midwifery care; obtain relevant health history and comprehensive physical exam, preventative screening, and identification of medical and obstetric risk factors.
  • Formulate appropriate differential diagnoses and identify individual, family, and community needs.
  • Develop treatment plans to maximize health potential in outpatient and inpatient settings.
  • Initiate or participate in patient care conferences; order and adjust medications per collaborative written agreements and prescriptive authority under the Indiana Nurse Practice Act.
  • Serve as clinical resource for nursing staff, physicians, hospital and other health care providers.
  • Perform outpatient fetal surveillance, including non‑stress tests.
  • Hospital duties: triage obstetric patients, labor assessment and management, vaginal deliveries, repair of minor lacerations and episiotomies, immediate newborn assessment and stabilization, postpartum rounds, and discharge of patient.
  • May perform additional duties with appropriate training.
  • Demonstrate clinically high level of care, exceeding expected standard when addressing special patient needs.
  • May add additional skills such as IUD insertion, colposcopy, and limited ultrasound assessments.
  • Apply at least one health literacy method when communicating with patients/clients.
Quality Assurance
  • Consult appropriately with physician sponsors.
  • Manage low‑risk patients independently.
  • Develop at least one OB/GYN procedure or guideline annually based on current research.
  • Identify and resolve process issues to improve outcomes.
  • Participate in peer review.
  • Exceed expectations by serving on clinical practice committees, PA&I CNM subcommittee, Health Net Quality Council, EMR implementation, or other quality improvement teams.
Documentation
  • Maintain accurate, concise, and legible medical records aligned with Health Net guidelines.
  • Adhere to Health Net policy standards for problem list and medication sheet use.
Education & Training
  • Participate in education of midwifery, nurse practitioner, medical students, and resident physicians.
  • Provide extensive ante‑partum, postpartum, and well‑woman education emphasizing patient empowerment.
  • Exceed expectations through exemplary student ratings, professional conference participation, and recognized expertise in specific clinical areas.
  • Share new information with the healthcare team.
Consultation & Research
  • Offer consultative services to health team members and the community.
  • Provide physician consultation for high‑risk patient care.
  • Exceed expectations by presenting at public forums, writing articles, or serving on professional boards.
  • Compare clinical practices to national standards and incorporate evidence into care.
  • Engage in or lead clinical research in women's health; seek grant funding for projects.
  • Serve as resource for interpreting research findings.
Requirements & Qualifications
  • Not sponsoring work visa.
  • Certification in Nurse Midwifery by the American College of Nurse‑Midwives.
  • Current Indiana RN licensure.
  • Current Indiana Nurse‑Midwife/Certified Nurse‑Midwife license.
  • Basic Life Support certification (AHA); advanced life support may be required per policy.
  • Associate of Nursing (ASN) required;
    Bachelor of Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • ASN RNs hired after Jan 1, 2013 must complete BSN within five (5) years.
  • Staff privileges for inpatient care.
  • Prescriptive authority per Indiana Nurse Practice Act.
  • Travel may be required.
Physical Requirements
  • Prolonged standing, walking, sitting, bending, squatting, stooping, repeated bending, and lifting light to moderate weight up to 20‑30 pounds.
  • Perform duties during varied or prolonged work hours.
  • Expose to all patient elements.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills in English.
