Intermediate Care (IMC) is a 36‑bed step‑down unit dedicated to patients who require closer telemetry monitoring. Each room is equipped with hemodynamic monitors and supports cardiac telemetry and continuous pulse oximetry for both stable and unstable patients. The unit treats adult patients with a wide variety of medical conditions including neurologic, respiratory, cardiac, renal, gastrointestinal, genitourinary, endocrine, gynecologic, trauma, post‑surgical, and behavioral cases.
Nurses receive fast‑paced training and are expected to hold ACLS, Trauma, and Stroke certifications. Strong critical thinking, assessment, and interdisciplinary communication skills are essential. Teamwork, shared governance, and Magnet principles guide daily practice in this learning environment.
As a member of the patient care team, the RN provides safe, age‑appropriate patient care and serves as an advisor and resource for patients and their families.
ResponsibilitiesEnsuring competent patient care on a fast‑paced step‑down unit, performing interdisciplinary communication, and supporting the unit’s Magnet‑aligned standards of practice.
Qualifications- Formal working knowledge; equivalent to an Associate’s degree (2 years college)
- Requires knowledge of a specialized field.
- Associate’s degree or Diploma in Nursing.
- Less than 1 year of experience.
- Licensed as a Registered Nurse, registered to practice in Maryland.
- American Heart Association CPR Certification.
