Nurse Practitioner (Department of Dermatology)
The Johns Hopkins Department of Dermatology is seeking a Nurse Practitioner to work collaboratively within a multi‑disciplinary team under the direction, supervision, and responsibility of a physician, and in accordance with established policies. The role involves patient care at the Johns Hopkins Dermatology Clinic at Greenspring Station, with opportunities to work at Howard County and Sibley locations. Candidates will independently evaluate patients, conduct physical examinations, obtain specimens, run diagnostic tests, and develop treatment plans.
They will provide therapeutic patient care, educate patients and families, attend continuing education, and maintain clinical documentation.
- Interview patients and compile medical histories to determine health status.
- Perform physical examinations, noting normal and abnormal findings.
- Obtain specimens, run lab and diagnostic tests, and order non‑routine procedures as needed.
- Analyze patient history and examination findings to provide preliminary diagnoses for physician review.
- Develop care/treatment plans in accordance with protocols and consult with supervising physicians before implementation.
- Perform procedures such as biopsies, injections, excisions, following sterile techniques.
- Provide education and guidance to patients and family members on health maintenance and disease prevention.
- Attend scheduled continuing education programs to keep knowledge current.
- Facilitate communication with consulting medical services and act as liaison with other departments.
- Maintain clinical documentation and respond to patient and staff messaging in accordance with hospital/SOM bylaws.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Master's degree in nursing.
- Registered Nurse license and certification as a Nurse Practitioner.
- Licensed as a Nurse Practitioner in the State of Maryland.
- Current CPR certification (American Heart Association or American Red Cross).
- Maintain current licensure and certification throughout employment.
- Complete the Johns Hopkins credentialing process prior to start date.
- At least one year of experience in a Dermatology NP role.
- Prior dermatology experience.
