Grounds​/Utility Worker

General Summary of Position
Performs routine general and preventive maintenance on hospital grounds including lawns, gardens, walkways, and driveways. Assists in snow removal operations. Acts as a helper/laborer when needed for Maintenance and Engineering.

• Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards, and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.
• Cleans grounds using rakes, brooms, and hose. Shovels, sweeps, and removes debris from grounds.
• Connects and maintains outdoor sprinkling equipment. Waters lawns, flowerbeds, gardens, shrubs, and trees.
• Inspects and performs minor repairs to equipment such as lawnmowers, sanders, and plows.
• Inspects grounds to ensure safe conditions and makes recommendations for improvements.
• Keeps drainage ditches and culverts free of obstructions.
• Maintains driveways and parking lots including snow removal.
• Maintains greenhouse to provide plants, flowers, and greenery for interior hospital decorating.
• Mows and trims lawns; repairs established lawns; plans new lawns.
• Plants, waters, prunes, rakes, and maintains flower beds, shrubs, trees, and lawns.
• Prepares and grades terrain; seeds and/or sods lawns; transplants and plants shrubs, plants, and trees.
• Schedules and coordinates activities for the maintenance and care of the hospital grounds and adjoining property.
• Sprays trees, shrubs, and plants and applies nutrients for lawn and plant growth.
• Participates in meetings and on committees and represents the department and hospital in community outreach efforts as required, and service improvement teams.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Education

• High School Diploma or GED required or equivalent.

Experience

• 1-2 years experience in facility maintenance or construction required.

• Basic computer skills preferred.

This position has a hiring range of $18 - $29.74
