Schedule:
35 hours per week.
A vacancy exists in the Department of Recreation and Parks, Recreation Services. A list of eligible applicants will be established based on the examination described below. Job PurposeUnder close supervision is responsible for the direct leadership of a wide variety of programs, activities and special events. Assists with all aspects of the production of crops and provides care to livestock.
Examples of EssentialJob Duties
- Assists in the creating, planning, implementing, scheduling, promoting and coordinating of a variety of programs, activities and special events in a heavily programmed park setting, both indoor and outdoor.
- Plans and leads diversified programs and activities in the following categories: agriculture, nature, cooking, special events, camps, crafts, and gardening.
- Recruits, trains and coordinates the work of part-time staff and volunteers.
- Meets with local residents to determine recreational needs.
- Inspects facilities to ensure structures, areas and equipment are safe, adequate and functioning properly.
- Enters programs and permits into the registration software:
Civic Rec. - Work hours and weekly schedule vary week to week, weekends, and seasonally.
- Operates and performs basic maintenance on tractors, arena groomers, plows, planters and harvesters.
- Uses large farm equipment, small-motorized equipment and hand tools.
- Performs general farm maintenance such as mowing and string trimming.
- Performs basic repairs to fences and animal enclosures.
- Responsible for the feeding and care of a variety of livestock including but not limited to horses, poultry, pigs, sheep and goats.
- Provides feed and water, maintains clean enclosures, and transports animals between enclosures.
- Monitors the animals for health and wellbeing and maintains detailed records.
- Performs basic animal health and grooming duties as required.
- Develops educational exhibits and displays.
- Interacts with visitors to provide a fun and educational experience.

Education and Experience
Possession of a high school diploma or the appropriate equivalent. Plus two years of successful experience as a playground leader, recreation leader, reaction specialist, teacher, or worker in a closely allied field.
Knowledge,Skills and Abilities
- A practical knowledge of the organization s educational programs, interpretive exhibits, demonstrations, and entertainment.
- Knowledge of the principles, practices, and theory of programming recreational and leisure activities.
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of agricultural education.
- Knowledge of first aid.
- Skill in at least three of the following types of activities: farming, dramatics, storytelling, low-organized games, social recreation, informal discussion, nature study, music, handicrafts.
- Sufficient skill in and appreciation of all activities conducted at a park site to develop a well-balanced, diversified program.
