** Organization's Summary Statement:  The University of Maryland Eastern Shore’s (UMES) Department of Agriculture, Food, and Resource Sciences seeks applications and nominations for the Post-Doctoral Position in Fermentation/Molecular Microbiology. This position is a non-tenured track faculty, two-year, grant-funded appointment with possible extension contingent on the grant fund availability and performance. The anticipated starting date for this position is fall 2026.
The department offers B.S. degrees in General Agriculture with several concentrations, an Agribusiness Management, an M.S., and a Ph.D. in Food and Agricultural Sciences. The department is actively engaged in teaching, research, and extension, and has many faculty and staff members with split appointments between UMES Extension and the UMES Agriculture   Experiment Station. This position will have research and service responsibilities.

The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) is a 1890 Land-Grant University in Maryland, located in a rural setting on the Delmarva Peninsula between the Atlantic Ocean and the Chesapeake Bay. Responsibilities:  The successful candidate will work in a Biosafety Level 2 (BSL2) laboratory and conduct research in the areas of alcohol fermentation, fermentation microbiology, molecular microbiology, and antimicrobial resistance. The responsibilities for this position are:

• Develop research protocols and conduct field trips for sample collection and    procurement.

• Perform laboratory basic, molecular microbiological analysis, and data analysis    using statistical software such as SAS.

• Prepare scientific manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals.

• Prepare posters and oral presentations for scientific conferences.

• Assist in other research projects and departmental activities.

• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

• PhD. in Food Science, Food Technology, Food Microbiology, Molecular Biology,    or a closely related field.

• Enthusiasm for conducting research in the field as well as in the lab.

• Strong oral and written communication skills.
Preferences:  
• Prior experience in fermentation-related work and Lactobacillus spp. Handling.

• Previous working experience in a BSL 2 facility.
Physical Demands:  
• May require extended periods of standing, bending, stooping, sitting at desk.

• May require lifting up to 25 lbs.

• Requires communication with a variety of constituents externally and internally.

• Requires operation of a variety of office equipment.#
