The Department of Neurology is seeking a Lab Assistant - Fruit Fly Stocks to assist with maintenance of fruit fly stocks in a laboratory in the Department of Neurology at Johns Hopkins. The lab maintains thousands of fly strains.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Will help maintain fruit fly stocks, by transferring them to clean vials with fresh food.
  • May assist with other lab tasks.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or graduation equivalent.
  • Reliable and careful nature, as it is important to not mislabel, switch, or contaminate the stocks, of which there are thousands.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Some undergraduate coursework preferred.
  • Prior experience in a biological research laboratory.
  • Prior experience handling fruit flies.

JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.
