Position: Security Officer 1 FT Nights

Security Officer 1 FT Nights

Apply for the Security Officer 1 Full-Time Night shift role at GBMC Health Care.

Under general supervision and in accordance with prescribed procedures, the Security Officer is responsible for the safety and protection of patients, visitors, staff, property, buildings, and grounds.

Experience
  • Preferred: experience in security, corrections, law enforcement, military, or fire/EMS departments.
Skills
  • Willing and able to work unscheduled hours as needed by the department.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills; able to interact professionally with all personnel and the public, using initiative and independent judgment within established guidelines.
  • Ability to read, understand, and implement GBMC Security strategies as outlined in the security policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Completion and maintenance of security training program requirements from new-hire onboarding throughout employment.
  • Proficient with the electronic dispatch system to generate calls for service and compile reports.
  • Adaptable to ever-changing environments and situations.
  • Proficient in nonviolent crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques to ensure safety, calm, and respect for all onsite.
  • Maintain satisfactory attendance and punctuality.
  • Professional appearance (neat and presentable).
  • Demonstrate ability to understand verbal and written directions and maintain a professional demeanor and restraint at all times, even in stressful situations.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively deal with patients, visitors, and staff.
  • Handle pressure of working with high-volume public, ranging from constant to occasional based on assignment.
  • Immediate response to emergencies to provide necessary assistance to employees and customers.
  • Operate a variety of machines and equipment, including automobiles, office equipment, radio, telephone, visitor management systems, access control systems, and CCTV.
  • Contribute to the achievement of established department goals and objectives while adhering to department policies, procedures, quality standards, and safety standards, and complying with governmental and accreditation regulations.
Licensure, Certifications
  • Current State Driver’s License maintained throughout employment.
  • Successful completion of post-hire training including CPR/RQI, Stop the Bleed, and de-escalation within two weeks of employment; maintain RQI throughout employment.
  • Possession of a Maryland Security Guard license or filing for one within the first two weeks; obtain license within 90 days.
  • EMTALA training completed within the new-hire probationary period prior to independent work.
  • GBMC Workplace Violence Prevention Training completed within the new-hire period prior to independent work.
Physical Requirements
  • Stand or walk for the duration of shifts on various surfaces (tile, concrete, carpet).
  • Climb stairs, ramps, or ladders occasionally.
  • Bend, twist at waist/knees/neck to perform duties.
  • Occasionally lift or carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Run as needed.
  • Use upper body to perform tasks requiring reaching, handling, and grasping while using phone, notepad, and writing reports.
  • Maintain correctable vision to normal level to observe, read, interact with the public, and monitor security cameras; hand/eye coordination required.
  • Work in various weather conditions, including cold, rain, or heat.
  • Maintain constant mental alertness and attention to detail while setting priorities and following up on assignments.
Working Conditions
  • Perform work inside and outside under all types of weather conditions, with intermittent exposure to noise, heat, dust, and disease.
  • Assist with violent or disruptive crisis patients as required during duty.
Conditions of Employment
  • Current State Driver’s License maintained throughout employment.
  • Security Guard certification issued by Maryland State Police maintained throughout employment.
  • Security Guard training by an approved Maryland instructor, maintained throughout employment.
  • Maintain current active status of all required competencies and certifications, including CPR, EMTALA, and Workplace Violence Prevention training, as a condition of continued employment.
