The Maryland Port Administration (MPA) is a 205-employee transportation business unit within the Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) and is the public face of the Port of Baltimore. MPA was created by the Maryland General Assembly to increase waterborne commerce through the ports in the state. General

Role Description

MPA is seeking a motivated, positive, and driven Skilled Trade Specialist with experience in the area of Plumbing to join the Facility Maintenance Division. The primary responsibility of this position includes the maintenance, inspection, modification, remodel, repair, and diagnosis of various plumbing related distribution systems, the respective equipment and fixtures as well as infrastructure for these systems to minimize the impact on movement of cargo across our various marine terminals while adhering to all applicable local, state, and federal codes and guidelines.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Install and repair circulating pumps, sanitary ejector systems, sewage systems, sprinkler systems, and waste disposal systems.
  • Install and repair showers, sinks, spigots, toilets, urinals, and other plumbing fixtures.
  • Installs, repairs, or replaces fire hydrants, fire extinguishers, and post indicator valves.
  • Ensures the availability of hot and cold-water supplies.
  • Caulks and packs various fittings.
  • Inspects and performs preventative maintenance of plumbing, and other related tools and equipment.
  • Orders supplies and equipment as necessary to carry out the day-to-day maintenance and repairs to various sheds and buildings.
  • May fabricate and install form in underground water stations such as potable water pits, storm drains, and storm banks.

The current vacancy exists at the Dundalk Marine Terminal. This position reports directly to a Skilled Trade Supervisor in the Facility Maintenance Division.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

Graduation from a standard high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience:

Three (3) years of experience performing skilled trade work in the area of plumbing.

Notes
  • Additional work experience performing skilled trades as defined above may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
  • A certificate from a vocational technical school with a major in one or more of the skilled trades as defined above may be substituted for one year of the required general experience.
  • Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in utilities repair classifications or construction and engineering specialty codes in the skilled trades as defined above field of work, on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
