Safe Exit Initiative (SEI) is a survivor-led nonprofit organization where survivors of systems of prostitution and allies collaborate in providing support to victims and survivors of the sex trade - populations that are routinely neglected and marginalized by society. Our mission is to provide quality exit services and supports to prostituted individuals. We have developed a comprehensive approach to accomplishing our mission which includes advocacy for social change and justice for survivors, leading legislative initiatives at national, state, and local levels, providing training and consulting services to community-based partners such as medical providers, social services agencies, law enforcement, and developing and delivering education and outreach services for community members and academic institutions.

HARBOR

BALTIMORE

Harbor is our Drop-In Center and provides a safe place for people experiencing homelessness, commercial sexual exploitation (CSE), substance/opioid use disorder, and or mental health disorders. Harbor ushers in real change on addressing commercial sexual exploitation, substance/opioid use disorder, and the public health epidemic and gender-based violence that is prostitution. Harbor responds to several issues affecting the city with a coordinated and collaborative approach resulting in the most efficient and effective delivery of services and resources to our community’s most vulnerable members.

Harbor will provide solutions to this population in the form of intensive case management, peer mentorship, access to healthcare and treatment programs, advocacy in the court system, DCF matters, and the healthcare system, access to stabilization resources (SNAP, SSI, etc.), and rapid re-housing support.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The essential duties include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Be a key part of a collaborative team approach in delivering harm reduction supplies
  • Identify individuals in the community in need of support, and connect them to relevant resources, programs and services, and advocate when needed
  • Maintain accurate records of outreach efforts, community interactions, and referrals
  • Distribute food, water and clothing to individuals in the community
  • Encourage individuals to participate in community activities, including community partnerships
  • Provide leadership, advocacy, and mentorship to the community
  • Provide crisis intervention services as needed
  • Provide guidance to different pathways and being accepting of a variety of pathways to recovery, exiting and harm reduction
  • Complete all required documentation by end of shift
  • Attend and participate in meetings, trainings, and supervision as assigned
  • Collaborate with Community Case Managers and Program Director to identify and maintain outreach needs
  • Ensure inventory of outreach van and order supplies/food as needed
  • Complete daily shift tasks
  • Any other tasks assigned by management.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Lived experience preferred, but not required
  • Ability to apply independent judgment to determine the appropriate course of action in resolving problems, including in emergency situations
  • A personal interest in and commitment to working with people who have been impacted by CSE
  • A flexible and positive attitude and belief in the process of surviving and healing from CSE and helping others do so as well
  • Possess cultural sensitivity and adaptability to various personalities and backgrounds
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
  • Active/valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • Must be proactive, solution-driven, and able to apply problem solving techniques to a variety of situation
