Senior Software Engineer (Backend) – Billing Platform (Hybrid)

GEICO is seeking a seasoned senior software engineer to join our Billing Platform team. The role focuses on designing, building, and maintaining large‑scale applications and distributed systems that power GEICO’s core billing services.

Base Pay Range: $100,000 – $215,000 per year

The Billing Platform team manages the tools, infrastructure, data, reporting, analytics, and services essential for delivering seamless billing experiences to internal users, end customers, and partners. Our platform is the backbone for managing financial transactions and customer interactions, enhancing efficiency, accuracy, and customer satisfaction.

Lead the re‑architecture of our billing platform from the ground up, with a focus on scalability and efficiency. You will oversee the design and development of complex software systems, mentor engineers, and collaborate closely with cross‑functional teams.

• Oversee high‑level and low‑level designs of one or more sub‑systems of the billing platform
• Be responsible and accountable for the quality, reliability, usability, and performance of the solutions
• Provide strategic guidance and oversight for multiple billing teams, ensuring alignment with the Platform’s technical vision and business objectives
• Lead the design and development of complex software systems, ensuring they are scalable, maintainable, and meet high‑quality standards
• Identify and prioritize technical challenges that may pose risks to business
• Develop solutions to address these issues efficiently, ensuring smooth product development
• Work closely with product management, design, and other departments to ensure cohesive project delivery
• Facilitate effective communication and collaboration across teams to achieve common goals
• Mentor and guide engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement
• Provide technical guidance to help team members overcome challenges and make informed decisions

• 4+ years of professional, hands‑on software development experience
• Strong experience in architecting and designing large‑scale, complex systems
• Proficient coding skills in Java, Kotlin, Golang, or a similar language, capable of producing high‑performance, production‑quality code
• Experience with a wide range of technologies, including SQL and No
  
  SQL databases, Kafka, Spark, Airflow, or equivalents
• Proficient in using cloud‑computing tools throughout the software development lifecycle, with deep expertise in Dev Ops, observability, telemetry, and test automation
• Skilled in collaborating across engineering teams and other functions to build alignment, drive decision‑making, and communicate transparently

• Experience in the financial technology sector, with a focus on billing, payments, subscription management, and financial reporting
• Proven track record in designing and implementing workflow engines

• Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience
