Knowledge and understanding

• Have a good knowledge of the relevant aspects of the National Curriculum and other statutory requirements.
• Know how to respond to subject-related questions which pupils raise and be able to ascertain the real point of the question.

• Contribute to long-term and medium-term planning to ensure that the curriculum is broad, varied and relevant to the needs of the pupils.
• Follow the school’s curriculum documentation with regard to learning objectives, content, lesson structures and sequences.
• Set appropriate yet challenging expectations for pupils’learning and motivation. Set clear targets for pupils’ learning, building onprior attainment.
• Identify pupils who have special educational needs, working within the school’s systems to provide positive and targeted support. Implement and keep relevant records.

• Ensure effective teaching of whole classes, groupsand individuals so that teaching objectives are met, momentum and challenge are maintained, and best use is made of teaching time.
• Ensure teaching follows the school’s BASIC lesson structure and consistently adopts Bloxham CE Primary School’s agreed pedagogy, including review and retrieval, small steps, modelling, effective questioning, guided to independent practice, appropriate scaffolding, purposeful vocabulary development and live feedback.
• Ensure appropriate adaptations are planned and implemented so that all pupils, including those with SEND and other identified needs, canaccess learning, experience appropriate challenge and make progress.
• Use teaching methods which keep pupils engaged, including stimulating pupils’ intellectual curiosity, effective questioning and response,clear presentation and good use of resources.
• Provide opportunities within which pupils increasingly take responsibility for their own learning.
• Set high expectations for pupils’ behaviour, establishing and maintaining a good standard of discipline through well-focused teaching and through positive and productive relationships.

• Evaluate how well learning objectives have been achieved and use this to determine objectives for future teaching, in accordance withthe school’s assessment policy.
• In line with the school’s Feedback and Marking Policy,monitor pupils’ work and learning, provide effective feedback and ensure misconceptions are identified and clearly addressed so that pupils can move forward securely in their learning.
• Use assessment information to identify pupils who require additional support and ensure necessary interventions are implemented, recorded and reviewed for impact, with a clear focus on securing progress.
• Enter assessment and other required pupil data accurately and within agreed timescales onto the school’s tracking system. Use this information to monitor individual and cohort progress, identify pupils at riskof falling behind and inform appropriate teaching, adaptations and intervention. Keep parents and carers informed about their child’s attainment,progress and next steps in line with the school’s reporting arrangements.

• Promote positive relations with parents, carers and thewider community by encouraging a working partnership with the school.
• Ensure reports to parents are provided in line with school timescales.
• Recognise that learning takes place outside the school context and provide opportunities to develop pupils’ understanding by relating their learning to real and work-related examples.
• Understand the need to liaise with agencies responsible forpupils’ welfare.
