Position: Haematology Deputy Nurse Manager – Day Treatment Unit (Fixed-term, 12 months)
Location: Churchill Hospital, Headington
Salary: £39,959 – £48,117 pro rata per annum
Hours: 30 hours per week (part‑time)

Job overviewThe Day Treatment Unit (DTU) at Churchill Hospital cares for patients with cancer who require a wide range of Systemic Anti‑Cancer Therapies (SACT), including classic chemotherapy and newer agents such as immunotherapies and gene therapy. This role supports the Haematology DTU team in delivering safe, high‑quality care.
Main duties- Assist the unit nurse manager in providing clinical and managerial leadership for staff and the safe delivery of the SACT service, ensuring all systems and processes are current.
- Participate in the multidisciplinary team (MDT) to ensure patients receive the highest standard of care.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of clinical practice, maintaining a motivated and focused day‑treatment team.
- Be available to travel between DTUs at Churchill and Horton hospitals to support where required.
- Lead as a day unit coordinator, managing day‑to‑day operations and resolving issues with senior support.
- Supervise junior colleagues, providing guidance, managing workload, and fostering a collaborative team environment.
- Ensure effective communication among all health‑care team members.
- Maintain technical competence in SACT administration, cannulation, central venous catheter management, and phlebotomy.
- Maintain accurate, comprehensive documentation using electronic systems (e.g., EPR, Aria).
- Prioritise tasks to safeguard patient and unit safety.
- Serve as a clinical role model, responding to changes promptly and collaborating on specialized care plans.
- Registered nurse, entry on part 1 or 12 of the NMC register.
- Relevant experience in an acute setting with specific expertise in SACT delivery.
- Demonstrated teaching or management experience.
- Experience in ward coordination and team leadership.
- Completed Safe Handling & Administration of SACT training.
- Ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with patients, carers, and MDT members.
