Silvermine is looking for a senior, hands-on Database Platform Engineering Manager to lead our database and analytics platforms as we scale multiple SaaS products in the compliance and fintech domain.

This is not a services or support role. You will own the design, evolution, and reliability of production-grade databases and data platforms, while leading and mentoring a growing team of database and data platform engineers.

We are looking for someone who combines deep technical judgment with strong people leadership, and who is comfortable getting into

the details when needed. At Silvermine, managers are expected to own outcomes, not just coordinate work.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Platform Architecture & Engineering

- Own the database and data platform architecture across transactional systems and analytics platforms.
- Lead the design and evolution of data models, dimensional schemas, and data warehouses that support reporting, operations, and analytics.
- Establish and enforce database design standards, performance guidelines, and data quality practices.
- Guide the team on query optimization, indexing strategies, and workload tuning for high-volume systems.
- Ensure privacy-by-design, security, and data governance are built into all data systems.

Data Pipelines & Operations

- Oversee ETL/ELT pipelines that ingest data from internal services and external systems.
- Drive improvements in reliability, observability, and operational maturity of data pipelines.
- Lead root cause analysis for data discrepancies, performance regressions, and production incidents.
- Partner with Dev Ops on capacity planning, monitoring, backups, and disaster recovery.

People Leadership

- Build, mentor, and manage a team of Database Engineers and Data Platform Engineers.
- Set clear expectations around ownership, accountability, and engineering quality.
- Conduct regular 1:1s, performance reviews, and career growth planning.
- Create an environment where engineers are encouraged to think long-term, document well, and improve systems continuously.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

- Act as the primary technical interface for database and data platform initiatives.
- Work closely with Product, Analytics, QA, and Business teams to translate requirements into robust data solutions.
- Enable self-service analytics by improving data discoverability, consistency, and trust.
- Review and influence system designs to ensure data correctness and scalability from day one.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS &

REQUIRED SKILLS:

- 10+ years of experience in database engineering, data modelling, and data platforms.
- 3+ years in a technical leadership or engineering management role.
- Strong hands-on experience with MySQL and cloud data warehouses (AWS Redshift preferred).
- Advanced expertise in SQL, including performance tuning and complex query optimization.
- Strong programming experience in Python (preferred) or R for ETL workflows, automation, and data validation.
- Experience designing and operating ETL/ELT pipelines using tools such as AWS DMS, Talend, SSIS, or equivalent.
- Solid understanding of OLTP vs OLAP workloads, scalability, and performance trade-offs.
- Experience implementing data governance, access controls, and data quality frameworks.
- Proven ability to lead teams working on mission-critical production systems.

Nice to Have

- Experience enabling AI/ML use cases from a data platform perspective (training datasets, feature pipelines, data quality).
- Exposure to modern analytics stacks and self-service BI tools.
- Experience working in product companies (SaaS, fintech, or regulated domains preferred).
- Prior experience modernizing or scaling legacy database systems.
