Advanced (Senior) Data Engineer – Data Governance

About the Role:

The Advanced Data Engineer is a key technical contributor who designs and scales governance-aware data pipelines, drives data quality automation, and influences how domains adopt standards. You will architect reusable components, optimize Big Query workloads, and lead the rollout of data quality and metadata frameworks across teams.

Key Responsibilities:

Architect and build scalable, reliable data pipelines and governance frameworks in GCP.
Design optimized Big Query schemas, partitioning strategies, and performance-tuned SQL.
Implement automated data quality checks, profiling, and validation workflows ld Python-based automation for metadata extraction, rule execution, and lineage.
Drive integration with governance tooling (e.g., Alation, Monte Carlo).
Partner with Data Stewards and SMEs to bootstrap CDE identification and data contracts.
Perform deep root cause analysis using logs, lineage, and data patterns.
Mentor junior engineers and contribute to engineering best practices.

Required Skills:

Advanced proficiency in Python (pipeline frameworks, automation, reusable components).
Expert-level SQL, including performance tuning and Big Query optimization.
Deep hands-on experience with GCP and Big Query ong experience in batch/ETL pipeline design using modern orchestration tools.
Proven capability implementing data quality frameworks and validation logic.
Strong proficiency in Power BI development (modeling, report design, governance dashboards).
Strong communicator with ability to influence cross-functional engineering teams.
Understanding of conceptual and logical information models, semantic standards, and domain-driven design.
Git-based version control and CI/CD familiarity.

Nice to Have:
Hands-on with Monte Carlo for observability automation.

Experience with Alation metadata APIs, glossary management, and lineage mapping.

Experience with Airflow / Cloud Composer for orchestration.
Understanding of CCPA, data privacy, and sensitive data handling patterns.
