This role sits within the Data Management Enablement (DME) Center of Excellence (COE) and focuses on supporting enterprise data governance practices across the organization. The associate acts as a governance advisor and enablement partner , helping business and data stakeholders improve how data is managed, governed, and retained.
The role emphasizes analysis, governance oversight, and stakeholder support rather than heavy technical development. It plays a key role in driving adoption of data governance standards , improving data quality, and ensuring alignment with records management and data retention requirements .
Key Responsibilities
Data Governance & Quality Support
Partner with data owners and stewards to analyze data issues and improve data quality practices
Support the definition and monitoring of data quality rules aligned to business needs
Perform data analysis, validation checks, and issue investigation to identify root causes and drive resolution
Provide insights and recommendations to strengthen data governance controls
Metadata, Catalog & Lineage Governance
Support the organization and maintenance of business metadata and data definitions
Ensure data assets are properly classified, documented, and aligned to governance standards
Assist stakeholders in understanding data flows and lineage to improve transparency and trust
Workflow & Governance Process Enablement
Support and enhance governance workflows (e.g., approvals, issue management, certifications, and lifecycle processes)
Improve traceability, auditability, and consistency of governance processes
Provide day-to-day support to users on governance tools and processes
Stakeholder Engagement & Adoption
Act as a trusted advisor to business and data teams, guiding them on governance best practices
Conduct training sessions, office hours, and user support to increase adoption
Translate business needs into practical governance solutions and improvements
Records Management & Data Retention
Ensure governance practices align with enterprise records management and retention policies
Support data classification, retention scheduling, and defensible disposition processes
Partner with compliance and legal teams to ensure data is managed in accordance with regulatory and internal retention requirements
Promote awareness and adoption of records management standards across data domains
Audit, Risk & Continuous Improvement
Support audit readiness and regulatory compliance (e.g., BCBS 239, GDPR, internal policies)
Contribute to governance reporting and evidence tracking
Identify opportunities to enhance governance processes, controls, and efficiency
Support emerging capabilities such as AI-assisted data classification and governance insights
Required
Skills & Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a relevant field
10–13 years of experience in data governance, data management, data quality, or records management
Strong understanding of data governance frameworks and operating models
Experience supporting metadata, data quality, lineage, and governance processes
Solid knowledge of records management and data retention principles
Strong analytical skills with ability to interpret data issues and recommend solutions
Proven experience working with business stakeholders, data stewards, and control functions
Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
Ability to educate, influence, and drive adoption of governance practices
Preferred Skills
Experience working in regulated environments (e.g., BCBS 239, GDPR)
Familiarity with data governance tools (e.g., Collibra or similar platforms)
Exposure to data classification, retention schedules, legal holds, and disposition processes
Awareness of emerging AI capabilities in data governance
