The Opportunity      The Category Excellence & Capability Lead is responsible for partnering with the EXM Procurement team to standardize and continuously improve  ways of working to imbed best-in-class category management and sourcing processes, practices, tools, and capabilities . This role ensures that category and sourcing teams operate with a consistent, high-impact approach to strategy development, sourcing execution, and value delivery.
The role work with teams to imbed pre-defined  methodology, playbooks, and capability building , enabling category and sourcing managers to deliver superior outcomes across cost, risk, supply continuity, and innovation.
How You'll Spend Your Day
Work with procurement teams to implement and track the  end-to-end category management framework , including strategy development, sourcing execution, and supplier management
Track and report that standardized approaches to  category segmentation, opportunity identification, and strategy formulation  are being developed and planned for execution
Advise teams to maintain alignment with procurement policy, governance, and enterprise objectives
Track and report that procurement teams execute accordingly to  category playbooks, templates, and toolkits  (e.g., strategy templates, negotiation guides, should-cost models)
Assist Procurement teams to standardize best practices across categories to ensure consistency and repeatability
Continuously assist the EXM Procurement LT to refine tools and methodologies based on internal performance benchmarks
Where appropriate, partner with Procurement COE teams to deliver  training programs  to build category management and sourcing capabilities across EXM procurement
Use established capability maturity models to assess team proficiency through developed reporting for EXM Procurement LT
Execute onboarding programs for new category and sourcing managers and continuous learning initiatives
Support category teams to leverage advanced sourcing techniques (e.g., should-cost modeling, market analysis, value engineering)
Support procurement managers through development of  category and sourcing strategies  for high-impact or complex categories
Partner with Analytics and Finance to ensure robust business cases and value tracking are being used consistently within the EXM Procurement team
Work with EXM Procurement LT to define and track  category management effectiveness metrics  (e.g., strategy quality, sourcing cycle time, value delivered)
Establish governance forums and review processes to ensure adherence to standards and that results are reported to EXM Procurement LT
Conduct maturity assessments and drive continuous improvement initiatives
Partner with COE functions (Analytics, Finance Governance, Risk) to embed best practices into category and sourcing teams
Collaborate with category teams to identify capability gaps and improvement opportunities
Work with leadership to align capability development with business priorities
Your Qualifications and Experience
Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain, Finance, or related field (advanced degree preferred)
5-8+ years of experience in  procurement, category management, or strategic sourcing
Proven experience in developing or leading  category strategies and sourcing initiatives
Experience deploying  training, playbooks, or operating frameworks  within procurement or similar functions
Working Knowledge of  category management principles and sourcing strategies
Ability to work with leaders to standardize  category strategies across diverse spend areas
Working knowledge of sourcing tools, techniques, and value levers
Experience in  training, coaching, and capability building
Ability to translate complex methodologies into  simple, scalable frameworks
Strong instructional design and communication skills
Ability to influence without direct authority across category teams
Strong stakeholder management and relationship-building skills
Continuous improvement mindset with a focus on operational excellence
