Professional Duties- Planning and Preparation
- Plan and prepare courses and lessons.
- Teach pupils according to their educational needs, setting and marking work.
- Assess, record and report on pupils’ development, progress and attainment.
- General Responsibilities
- Promote general progress and well‑being of pupils.
- Provide advice and guidance on education, social matters, future careers and further education.
- Make records of pupils’ personal and social needs unless it compromises teacher’s position.
- Communicate and consult with parents and external bodies approved by the employing authority.
- Participate in meetings relevant to the school’s purposes.
- Assessment and Reporting
- Provide or contribute to oral and written assessments, reports and references for pupils.
- Staff Development and Professional Development
- Participate in staff development and performance review schemes.
- Review teaching methods and teaching programmes.
- Co‑operate with the Principal and other teachers on course development, teaching materials, programmes and assessment.
- Discipline, Health and Safety
- Maintain order and discipline, safeguard pupils’ health and safety.
- Participate in meetings on curriculum and pastoral arrangements.
- Public Examinations
- Arrange and assess pupils for public examinations, and supervise examinations.
- Management Activities and Administration
- Contribute to selection, induction, assessment of other teachers.
- Coordinate or manage the work of other teachers.
- Participate in administration tasks related to support staff and equipment.
A full‑time teacher should be available for work on 195 days in any year, not more than 190 days for classroom teaching. Total hours per year: 1,265 excluding preparation, marking and travel. Mid‑day supervision may be required unless specified. Teachers must have at least a 30‑minute break between 12:00 and 14:00, and nursery teachers 12:00‑14:30. Staff cover: teachers may cover absent colleagues under specified conditions.

- Qualifications
- Teaching qualification recognized for grant‑aided schools in Northern Ireland.
- Degree or Level 6 equivalent with Maths as main subject.
- Registered with the General Teaching Council for Northern Ireland.
- Experience
- Teaching Maths at Key Stage 3 and 4 with positive learning outcomes.
- Demonstrable use of varied teaching strategies to meet diverse learning needs.
- Knowledge
- Northern Ireland Curriculum.
- Safeguarding, Child Protection policy and SEND Code of Practice.
- Use of digital classroom tools and assessment methods.
- Skills / Abilities
- Effective teaching and classroom management.
- Supportive inclusive learning environment.
- Collaboration, teamwork and motivation.
- Values and Identification with School Ethos
- Evidence how experience reflects the school’s values/ethos.
