RSPB - County Down Farmland Bird Surveyors

RSPB Northern Ireland

We are looking for volunteer surveyors to carry out bird surveys 15 April to 30 June.

What you will be doing

Volunteers will carry out 4 surveys on a designated farm allocated to them in east County Down. Surveys can be carried out from 15 April through to the end of June.

Training will be provided on how to record priority species present and the methodology we use.

This is a great opportunity to see farmland birds in their natural habitat and to use your skills and develop your skills with bird identification. These surveys are essential to the RSPB carrying out its conservation work in County Down – you will be doing your bit for our feathered friends!

The skills you need

You need to be confident identifying farmland birds in the wild. However, training on bird identification and survey skills / technique will be provided.

This role requires outdoor field work.

You need to be fit and able to walk across sometimes uneven farmland terrain.

You will need binoculars, wellie boots, and warm clothing for outdoor work
