Internal Candidate Only

Come and join us in Bangor for a fabulous six or twelve months’ Emergency Medicine experience in a rural ED, with a fantastic reputation for junior doctor training. Please note that these posts are not the same as the Middle Grade Posts with PHEM, Global EM and Mountain Medicine options.

Job Overview

We are happy to welcome doctors who wish to just have a taster of EM prior to doing something else, or those committed to a career in the specialty. Our team consists of 13 SHO-tier doctors (3 x F2, 2 x ACCS, 3 x GPST, 5 x Junior Clinical Fellows) plus an Academic F2; ten Clinical Fellows in EM/PHEM; 1 EM HST trainee;

twelve Consultants; and two Associate Specialists/Specialist Grade doctors. We also have a team of fantastic ENPs and ACPs. This post is identical in every way to our deanery training posts: there’s protected teaching every Thursday afternoon within the ED, plus a variety of other junior doctor tutorials and teaching sessions. You will also have an educational supervisor to help you achieve your career aims.

Plus, we can offer you up to 11 days personal development time to attend suitable training opportunities.

Main duties of the job

We are offering a Clinical Fellow (F3 post) in Emergency Medicine. This post is identical to our educationally-approved F2/ST1 level posts. In terms of CV-enhancing opportunities, our junior clinical fellow post is ideal:

  • Personal development time to undertake taster days or weeks, or other educational opportunities – 11 days in 6 months in addition to study leave for appropriate courses.
  • Teaching experience is easily available: we host final-year medical students from Cardiff & Swansea University, as well as nursing and paramedic students and trainee ACPs.
  • All doctors have the opportunity to complete an audit or quality improvement project and we participate in the RCEM national audits. We are also very happy to support junior doctors wishing to gain experience in projects such as protocol design.
  • ALS, ATLS and EPALS courses are held in the hospital plus we give you sufficient study leave budget to fund the course.
  • Weekly teaching in paid work time – four hours each week.
  • For doctors interested in pre-hospital care, we are happy to arrange work experience placements with our Welsh Ambulance colleagues (must have undertaken a one-day V&A course).
  • An educational supervisor to ensure you achieve your goals for this post.
