Role OverviewThe post-holder will undertake day‑to‑day operational admission processing of UK applications and decision making, handle enquiries from potential students via email, telephone and digital platforms, support the organisation of interviews for selected courses, and represent the admissions team at on‑campus events. The role may involve some evening and weekend work.
Purpose of the JobAssist in the day‑to‑day running of the admissions team function, communicate with potential students, liaise with internal professional services and academics, and support the coordination of interviews. Report to a Senior Admissions Officer within the Department of UK Recruitment and Admissions.
Main Duties and Responsibilities- Provide effective admissions‑related clerical support within the UK Admissions department.
- Assist with the organisation and day‑to‑day operation of administrative processes and procedures.
- Support the organising and coordinating of interviews for selected courses.
- Communicate effectively with staff and prospective students; maintain working relationships with colleagues and external bodies.
- Deal with incoming enquiries from applicants and prospective applicants and give information, advice or guidance where appropriate.
- Deal with incoming correspondence on a daily basis and process accordingly.
- Type letters, reports and documents using word processing facilities for communicating with potential students.
- Maintain the digital filing system of potential students’ documents and ensure application‑related information is available when required.
- Maintain and update local systems and/or spreadsheets as requested by staff or line manager.
- Provide cross‑section support on events and activities in relation to UK recruitment, including attending Open Days and Applicant Days; this may involve working evenings and weekends.
- Participate in performance review and developmental activities.

- Comply with relevant legal and financial policies and procedures and be aware of responsibilities in terms of the legal requirements of the post.
- Organise meetings, book rooms and provide minute‑taking as appropriate.
- 2 AS Levels or 1 A Level or equivalent
- ECDL Certificate
- NVQ Level 4 in a relevant subject area
- Previous experience of working in an administrative capacity.
- Understanding of current issues surrounding undergraduate and postgraduate students, especially funding and recruitment.
- Experience of supervising teams of staff (ideally student/casual staff).
- Experience of working within a student or customer‑focused service delivery environment.
- Prior experience in admissions or administrative roles within the UK education sector (FE/HE/schools).
- Understanding of the University and academic environment.
- Experience of recruiting and training staff.
- Experience of organising meetings, managing room bookings and minute taking.

- Excellent communication skills – verbal, non‑verbal and written, with the ability to communicate effectively across a wide range of audiences and present to pupils at school/college level.
