The successful candidates will have prior teaching experience in UK Higher Education, as well as a PhD in a discipline relevant to Banking and Finance.

Overview

The Albert Gubay Business School is research-active and devoted to teaching excellence. The school has a very supportive ethos, which builds a strong academic community where people want to work.

Our Banking & Finance academics collaborate actively with colleagues from other subject areas within the Business School, as well as having extensive collaborations beyond Bangor University, including with regulators and policymakers. Research interests currently pursued within the group include Financial Innovation and Data Analytics, Tax and Welfare, Responsible Banking, and Credit Risk. Research planning groups pursuing these themes operate in the Institute of European Finance (), which celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2023.

The Albert Gubay Business School has a newly refurbished Trading Room, which is a state-of-the-art facility incorporating Bloomberg and Refinitiv Eikon, that enables students to experience real-world trading and financial research activities. The School provides a wide range of other financial databases, including S&P Capital IQ Pro and Ratings Direct.

Purpose of the Job
  • To build upon the School’s excellent reputation in teaching in China
  • To nurture and develop relationships with our established ZUFE peers
  • To deliver quality teaching at undergraduate level which engages students and will establish a record of teaching excellence at all levels. This teaching will be delivered over a 4 week period in China.
  • To provide pastoral and academic support to undergraduate students, in China.
  • To perform administrative tasks effectively as designated by the Head of School.

Although exact dates and time frames are subject to minor variation, an indicative timeline for the 6-week role could be:

  • 4-5 weeks – travel to/from China and conduct teaching of 2 modules over a 4 week period.
  • 1 further week - after exams have been held, mark exams and submit paperwork (contract to be completed within 12 weeks of teaching start date).
Main Duties and Responsibilities

Teaching duties will include:

  • Delivering teaching, supervision and pastoral care in China;
  • Planning, preparing and delivering lectures and seminars at undergraduate level, responding effectively to a variety of student backgrounds, learning styles and class sizes including delivery of quality modules that attract, engage and retain students;
  • Motivating students to proactively engage in learning, and providing meaningful and constructive feedback on the quality of their work within agreed time constraints;
  • Examining and supervising / co-supervising undergraduate students
  • Keeping abreast of new professional, educational and related social, economic and technological developments;
  • Ensuring that all students are provided with a supportive learning environment and providing advice and guidance to individual students;
  • Developing innovative and appropriate teaching and assessment techniques and skills, influencing the pedagogy of the subject;
  • Being involved in the review of modules and programmes and quality assurance mechanisms.

Administrative duties will include:

  • Contributing to the marketing of programmes by participating in School and College link activities and other marketing initiatives;
  • Taking responsibility for specific modules as appropriate, working towards ensuring optimum module evaluation results;
  • Maintaining accurate records;
  • Liaising and working with other staff positively within the School, the College and the University, and other bodies as required;
  • Undertaking other administrative duties and responsibilities as directed by the Head of School.
