Bangor University International College is an embedded International College operated by Oxford International in partnership with Bangor University. BUIC provides integrated programmes at a college situated within the university campus. These programmes prepare international students for the next stage of their bachelor’s and master’s degrees at Bangor University and contain modules to develop their English language and study skills as well as academic modules.

BUIC has been operating since 2016 and is looking to recruit a Psychology Tutor.

Tutors deliver lessons that prepare students fully for their participation in their university programme. The lessons adopt an interactive, student-centred approach that makes full use of the latest technology to provide students with a varied, lively and purposeful experience.

The post requires the incumbent to deliver modules, in part and fully, that could be across a range of the College’s programmes
- International Year Zero (Level
3), International Year One (Level
4) and International Incorporated Master’s (Level
6).

• Plan and deliver psychology lessons to pre-university students from a range of linguistic, educational and cultural backgrounds;
• Remain sensitive to the expectations of different nationalities whilst encouraging an open and questioning approach to learning that leads students to become independent learners;
• Provide academic support for students, as appropriate, through consultations and tutorials, demonstrating a willingness to offer extra advice outside normal class hours;
• Develop and maintain an encouraging classroom environment in which accepted rules of behaviour are consistently applied;
• Select, prepare and use teaching and learning materials appropriate for international students;
• Assess students throughout their modules, regularly creating, providing and marking both formative and summative evaluations;
• Provide detailed oral and written feedback to students and other stakeholders, for example, the Academic Director or the College Director, as required;
• Carry out administrative and record-keeping tasks associated with teaching and assessment (e.g. accurate attendance records, student progress reports, lesson plans);
• Invigilate exams as required;
• Assist, or as appropriate, lead the development of module guides, schemes of work, teaching resources, assessment materials and mark schemes/model answers;
• Contribute to module and programme development;
• Undertake module leadership roles;
• Populate the VLE (Blackboard) with relevant materials for students to access;
• Attend and contribute to College meetings and training sessions as required;
• Promote team spirit at all levels and ensure full communication with team;
• Assist with other duties as directed by line manager;
• Act as a positive ambassador for Oxford International;
• Adhere to both the Bangor University and BUIC codes of conduct for staff;
• Engage in continual professional development and keep up to date with the latest developments in the field; and
• Participate in the annual Performance Development Review process.

Statutory requirements

• Eligibility to live and work in the UK
• Undergo an Enhanced DBS disclosure check or overseas equivalent

Qualifications

• A relevant Master’s degree in a field within the spectrum of Psychology
• A teaching qualification
• A PhD (Desirable)
• HEA Fellowship (Desirable)

Experience and knowledge

• Experience of teaching Psychology
• A broad subject knowledge that is relevant to BUIC’s programmes
• Previous teaching and assessment experience
• Knowledge and experience of delivering high-quality, interactive and inspiring lessons using a variety of pedagogical methods
• Experience of module creation and quality assurance practices (Desirable)
• Experience of pastoral student care (Desirable)
• Experience with in FE/HE (Desirable)
