The role

We are seeking an individual to support Natural Resources Wales’ Data Services team in delivering data audits and small-scale data mobilisation projects across the organisation. This role is central to improving the visibility, accessibility and quality of NRW’s data assets, including valuable legacy paper and electronic records, supporting evidence-based decision making and collaboration across Wales.

Working closely with colleagues across NRW and alongside a Specialist Advisor, you will identify, assess and prepare data for use. This includes reviewing and organising legacy collections, documenting datasets using metadata standards, and helping determine the most appropriate approach for mobilisation – whether through scanning, direct data entry, or integration into corporate systems. You will transform, validate and upload data into corporate systems, working across a variety of formats to ensure data is accurate, consistent and meets agreed standards.

You will help teams identify data backlogs, advise on practical solutions for managing and mobilising data, and contribute to delivering this work. This includes hands‑on data preparation, entry and quality assurance, as well as supporting the appropriate handling or disposal of sensitive data.

This role requires strong data entry skills, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to stay focused on repetitive tasks and see work through to completion. You will bring good organisational and communication skills, experience of working with data, and an understanding of the data lifecycle. Knowledge of environmental data, data standards, and tools such as GIS, databases or metadata systems will be beneficial.

This is an excellent opportunity to develop practical skills in data mobilisation while supporting NRW’s commitment to effective data management, data sharing and the environment. It will suit someone with an environmental background who takes pride in producing accurate, high-quality work and is motivated to develop their expertise in managing environmental data.

This role will be offered as a fixed term appointment until 31 March 2028
