The Compliance Manager will lead the organisation’s compliance and audit function, ensuring full adherence to government funding rules and contractual requirements for all government funded contracts. As a member of the Senior Management Team, this role provides strategic oversight of compliance processes and acts as the subject matter expert for all regulatory and audit requirements whilst balancing this with strong service levels and user experience both internally and externally.
Key Responsibilities- Own and maintain compliance across all government-funded apprenticeship contracts.
- Interpret and implement DfE funding rules, with final sign-off by the Transformation Director.
- Prepare for and manage external audits, ensuring timely and accurate responses.
- Design and deliver internal audit schedules to monitor compliance and mitigate risk.
- Manage and update the DfE risk register.
- Ensure ILR accuracy and evidence monitoring using audit tools (FRM, PDSAT, DLOCK reports).
- Develop and maintain the organisation’s policy matrix, collaborating with SMT colleagues to ensure policies are current and robust.
- Provide monthly and quarterly compliance reports to SMT and Board summarising performance and non-compliance.
- Act as key contact for internal and external audit activity.
- Build strong relationships with Davies Group audit/compliance team to align strategies.
- Develop and deliver staff training on compliance processes.
- Ensure accurate data management within the MIS platform (Aptem experience desirable).
- Drive continuous improvement in compliance processes and documentation.
- Manage compliance for any new government contracts or historic funding streams if audits occur.
- Prepare for subcontracting compliance requirements if introduced.
- You may, on occasions, be required to undertake additional or other duties within the context of this job description, and according to the needs of the organisation.
- Proven experience in compliance management within an Independent Training Provider (ITP),
specifically covering apprenticeships. - Strong understanding of DfE funding rules and audit requirements.
- Knowledge of GDPR and data protection compliance.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to interpret complex regulations.
- Experience managing compliance teams and influencing senior stakeholders.
- Aptem MIS experience desirable but not essential.
- Ability to write and present analytical reports.
- Highly organised, proactive, and able to work independently in a remote environment.
- Flexibility and ability to manage high workload in changing environments.
