Radiology Service Manager – An Exciting Leadership Opportunity

BETSI CADWALADR UNIVERSITY HEALTH BOARD

Radiology in North Wales is a fast‑paced, ambitious and evolving service, delivering over 650,000 examinations each year across 18 sites, supported by a £30m budget and a multidisciplinary team of around 500 staff. Using advanced imaging technology and complex diagnostic pathways, Radiology plays a vital role in patient care across the region.

As one of three Radiology Service Managers, you will help shape imaging services across your area (West, Central or East). You will lead around 150 staff and manage a £10m budget, ensuring safe, high‑quality and efficient care across a district general hospital and community sites.

In this strategic leadership role, you will drive operational delivery and service development, lead and support non‑medical staff, and oversee training, performance and workforce planning. You will develop business cases, lead improvement projects and manage equipment installations.

You will implement Radiology‑wide protocols, act as a key liaison across hospital services and deputise for senior Radiology leaders.

You will ensure safe equipment provision, maintain appropriate staffing levels and fulfil Lead Radiation Protection Supervisor duties, including accurate and compliant use of RIS and PACS systems.

Main duties of the job

The postholder will lead the day‑to‑day delivery, coordination and development of Radiology services across multiple sites, ensuring safe, efficient, 24/7 operations. They will implement Radiology initiatives locally, manage resources effectively, chair local governance groups and act as the primary liaison for service‑wide operational issues. The role includes full line‑management responsibility for all non‑medical staff, overseeing recruitment, induction, training, performance, sickness management and staff development.

The postholder provides the professional oversight for all radiographers in their area of responsibility.

They will lead service improvement work, develop business cases, support strategic planning and ensure compliance with quality standards, audits, health and safety requirements and Putting Things Right processes. The postholder will manage budgets, contribute to workforce planning, maintain strong financial control and ensure safe equipment provision and maintenance.

They will act as Lead Radiation Protection Supervisor, ensuring compliance with IRR
17 and IR(ME)
R, maintain accurate RIS/PACS data, support student training, communicate key information effectively and represent Radiology on internal and external committees.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post;
