The Cricketers is a friendly, community-focused pub dedicated to great food, warm service and a welcoming atmosphere. Situated in a busy local neighbourhood, we serve seasonal menus, popular weekend roasts and host regular events. We are seeking an experienced and reliable Sous Chef to support the Head Chef and help lead our kitchen to consistently high standards.
What's the Role?As Sous Chef at The Cricketers you will be a proactive, organised and food-focused leader who can assist with running the kitchen day-to-day. You will work closely with the Head Chef to deliver excellent food, maintain food safety standards and develop the team.
- Support the Head Chef in planning, preparing and cooking dishes to menu specification
- Run the kitchen in the absence of the Head Chef, taking responsibility for service and standards
- Supervise, train and mentor junior chefs and kitchen staff, creating a positive and collaborative team environment
- Ensure consistent portion control, plate presentation and quality during service
- Maintain high standards of food safety, hygiene and cleanliness in line with HACCP and company procedures
- Assist with stock control, ordering, stock rotation and cost control to meet GP targets
- Contribute to menu development, specials and seasonal offering, bringing creativity and commercial awareness
- Help with shift planning to ensure adequate cover and manage labour costs
- Work effectively under pressure during busy services and support front-of-house where required
- Previous experience as a Sous Chef, Senior Chef de Partie or similar role in a busy kitchen
- Strong technical cooking skills and clear understanding of kitchen operations and timings
- Good leadership skills with experience of coaching and developing kitchen teams
- Knowledge of food safety, allergen control and hygiene regulations (HACCP)
- Commercial awareness with experience of stock management and cost control
- Reliable, adaptable and able to work evenings, weekends and bank holidays as required
- Positive attitude, great communication skills and a team-first approach
