Summary
The Special Education Teacher is an experienced member of the Watch Me Shine team and specializes in education and early intervention practices. The role involves working closely with classroom teachers, paraprofessionals, and the Center Director alongside Foundations, Inc. to develop treatment plans, create progress reports, meet with parents, and provide support and guidance to classroom teachers and other team members. The teacher assists in overseeing classroom management, programming, supervision, and ensures consistency of teaching methods while supporting and training new and current staff.

Includes the following:
Administrative Responsibilities- Coordinates, leads, attends, or directs intakes and team meetings in a timely and professional manner (e.g., student and family tours, intake meetings, progress meetings).
- Cultivates, models, and enforces a respectful, professional, collaborative environment.
- Conducts assessments of students to create comprehensive treatment plans, progress reports, and programs.
- Ensures assessments are repeated as required to comply with state and federal rules & regulations.
- Ensures ITP’s, Progress Reports, Daily Notes, etc. are comprehensive, professionally organized, individualized, and up to date for all clients.
- Maintains accurate and complete student records, due‑date logs, supervision logs, client communications, etc. to ensure paperwork is completed and recorded in compliance with program and state & federal rules and regulations.
- Ensures all student and staff records are complete, signed, and filed in accordance to Maine Care and WMS rules and regulations. Completes routine reports and correspondence in a timely manner.
- Ensures a continuous flow of communication between classrooms, teachers, and team to meet consistent communication and quality standards.
- Speaks effectively and professionally while demonstrating a calm composure with staff and parents.
- Oversees and manages assigned classrooms and client case loads.
- Provides teacher training, student programming, and classroom management support, ensuring consistent high‑level service within each classroom.
- Supports classroom teachers to ensure each client receives the best programming and progress toward learning goals, ensuring both WMS primary and secondary curricula are implemented correctly.
- Supervises and conducts regular classroom assessments (formal and informal) of staff and students to ensure program fidelity and quality delivery in accordance with WMS program standards.
- Ensures student programs are delivered comprehensively and individually; assesses progress monthly and supports teachers with behavior interventions, conducting FBAs and developing behavior programs as needed.
- Ensures WMS’s mission, philosophies, and core values are taught and adhered to.
- Ensures providers accurately complete and update daily notes, timesheets, MyDay’s, and other documentation per WMS policy; ensures daily notes submitted to finance are complete and neat.
- Maintains open and honest communication, giving timely feedback; answers questions within 1‑2 school days and supports staff when requested.
- Bachelor’s degree required;
Master’s degree in special education preferred. - Required amount of master’s level coursework in early intervention/special education/education/social work or related field from a four‑year college or university preferred.
- Three to four years of related experience and/or training; must acquire 282 teacher certification.
- Special Education Teacher Certification (282) with the State of Maine – must maintain active certification (WMS will reimburse costs).
- Crisis Prevention and Intervention Training within the first 3 months.
- Certified Behavioral Health Professional (50 hours) within the first year.
- CPR/First Aid certification – WMS can train if needed.
$48,000.00 – $60,000.00 per year
