The role of the Area Coordinator is to provide leadership and guidance within Residence Life and Student Life. This includes overseeing programs and services that foster a community of respect, inclusion, and social connections among Husson’s residential students. The Area Coordinator must possess the ability to adapt and respond to the changing needs of students and the University. The position will take leadership and management responsibility for the overall programming for residential students, and will oversee multiple residential spaces.
Examplesof Duties
- Live‑in professional position within a specified campus residential area or community.
- Provide oversight and direction of two residential areas (approximately 600 residents), including supervision and development of RA staff(s) and other student workers as needed.
- Meet with RA staff weekly.
- Have biweekly one‑on‑one meetings with individual RAs.
- Guide other live‑in professionals in executing Residence Hall operations such as health and safety inspections, break housing, and move‑in/move‑out procedures.
- Assist in managing Residence Life communication for on‑campus residents.
- Develop and oversee a programming model for Residence Life staff in conjunction with the Coordinator of Campus Programs and Events to complement campus‑wide programming.
- Budget management for programming and other critical needs.
- Serve as conduct officer for Residence Life.
- Assist with the housing component of summer camps and conferences.
- Participate in Student Life and campus‑wide events as assigned (e.g., Orientation, Homecoming, Commencement, Family & Friends Weekend, and others).
- Serve on divisional and/or campus‑wide committees as requested (students of concern, Campus Belonging, and others).
- Work collaboratively with campus offices and establish appropriate relationships with students, staff, and faculty.
- Additional functions by skill/interest:
- Assist in the development of Welcome Weekend activities and serve as liaison for campus programs such as New Student Orientation.
- Coordinate student staff selection, training, and development.
- Participate in the primary on‑call duty rotation to manage student and facilities crises after office hours; serve as essential personnel in campus‑wide emergencies such as natural disasters, power failures, and general threats to students.
- Serve as a Campus Security Authority (CSA).
- Manage crisis and personal student situations as they occur and serve as essential personnel in emergency and crisis situations such as natural disasters, power failures, and other threats to residents’ safety.
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree required;
Master’s Degree preferred. - Experience: Minimum of two years working with traditional college‑age students in a residential setting, facilities management, event management, student advising, or other applicable experience.
- Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Experience with data management, Microsoft Office applications, staff supervision; strong organizational/management skills and crisis management/conflict resolution skills.
- Housing: Must be able to reside in on‑campus housing provided by the university as a condition of employment.
- Accommodation: One‑bedroom apartment on campus; partner/spouse and up to two pets are welcome upon approval.
- Meal Plan: A meal plan will be provided.
- Work Environment: Noise level will vary from quiet in an office setting to loud at a program event. Must work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by the Department of Student Life.
- Physical Demands: Frequently lift and/or move up to 75 pounds (e.g., tables, chairs, event supplies, sound equipment) and occasionally use ladders up to 6 feet in height.
