Preschool Teacher – Eastern Maine Community College
Join our Early Head Start/Head Start team, providing early childhood education services at Eastern Maine Community College Preschool, Bangor.
Penquis – a social services agency serving Penobscot, Piscataquis, and Knox counties for over 50 years – is currently seeking a full‑time Preschool Teacher for children ages 3‑5 years.
Full‑time (40 hrs/wk) – Eastern Maine Community College Preschool, Bangor.
Teacher Responsibilities- Carry primary responsibility for the daily operation of a Penquis early education classroom.
- Serve as primary contact between the center and the family, gather family information, identify needs, make referrals and follow up, and provide ongoing child‑specific information.
- Provide educational, supportive home visits for eligible families, establishing a trusting relationship.
- Provide or oversee the provision of needed administrative and support functions for the center.
- Promote parental involvement in curriculum planning, program governance, and the overall Early Head Start/Head Start program.
- Maintain adequate client files while keeping them confidential.
- Supervise and evaluate assigned staff.
- Associate’s degree in early childhood education or child development, including coursework focused on infant & toddler development and an appropriate practicum experience. Two years paid experience in an early education/childcare setting may substitute for the practicum.
- Must be eligible for 081 Certification through the Department of Education if the position is in conjunction with a public school PreK partnership.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Computer proficiency, including word‑processing skills.
- Experience working directly with children aged birth to 5 years, managing typical behaviors and ensuring a safe environment.
- Compliance with Penquis background‑check requirements upon hire and periodically thereafter.

The starting rate of pay is $23.22 per hour, with additional compensation considered for relevant experience.
Eligible upon hire, new employees working 24‑40 hours per week receive a monthly stipend based on your lattice through MRTQ (Maine Roads to Quality).
