Penquis, a social services agency serving Penobscot, Piscataquis, and Knox counties for over 50 years, is currently seeking a full‑time Floating Teacher (ages 6 weeks to 5 years old). You will develop and administer a daily activity program to meet the needs of the group and individual children.
Hours & LocationFull‑time (36–40 hrs/wk) floater position supporting our Child Care facilities in the Bangor area.
Teacher Responsibilities- Carry primary responsibility for the daily operation of a Penquis early education classroom, serving as the primary contact between the center and families, gathering family information, making referrals, and providing child‑specific updates.
- Provide educational, supportive home visits to eligible families, establishing a trusting relationship.
- Oversee administrative and support functions for the center.
- Provide education and support services to families.
- Promote parental involvement in curriculum planning, program governance, and the overall Early Head Start/Head Start program.
- Maintain adequate client files and keep them confidential.
- Supervise and evaluate assigned staff.
- Associate’s degree in early childhood education or child development, with coursework focused on infant & toddler development and appropriate practicum experience (or two years paid experience in an early education/childcare setting).
- Eligible for 081 Certification through the Department of Education if the position is in conjunction with a public school PreK partnership; ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Computer proficiency and experience, including word processing skills.
- Work directly with children aged birth to 5 years old, managing typical noise and behavior challenges.
- Pass Penquis background check requirements upon hire and periodically thereafter.
Penquis Child Development will pay for newly hired staff to obtain appropriate credentials or continued educational opportunities.

The starting rate of pay for the Teacher position is $23.22 per hour, with additional compensation based on relevant experience.
Eligible upon hire, new employees in our Early Childhood programs who work 24–40 hours per week will receive a monthly stipend based on your lattice through MRTQ (Maine Roads to Quality).
