Peer Specialist

Role Overview

Peer Specialist at Community Health and Counseling Services (Bangor, Maine) – part‑time.

• Serve as member of a multidisciplinary team providing treatment and services to people using mental health and co‑occurring substance abuse services.
• Contribute to the agency’s mission by offering non‑clinical activities that engage, educate, and support individuals, families, and caregivers.
• Provide recovery training and outreach to peers in group and individual settings, demonstrating values of hopefulness, respect, acceptance, personal responsibility, honesty, and self‑advocacy.
• Model lived experience and personal recovery story to strengthen peer relationships and peer work.

• Certified Intentional Peer Support Specialist (CIPSS) certification.
• High school diploma or GED; additional education a plus.
• Prior experience in a mental‑health setting is a plus.
• Lived/living experience with mental health and/or substance use that was life‑interrupting; personal recovery history.
• Strong communication, empathy, and conflict‑resolution skills.

Generous leave time with paid sick and vacation; seven paid holidays and five paid float holidays for full‑time staff; prorated for part‑time staff.
