Position: Become a Volunteer Teacher with the Red Cross! (Maine)

Overview

The American Red Cross, through its strong network of volunteers, donors and partners, aims to turn compassion into action so that people affected by disaster receive care, shelter and hope; communities are prepared for disasters; everyone has access to safe, lifesaving blood and blood products; armed services members and their families receive support; and trained individuals are ready to use Red Cross skills in emergencies.

Be among the first to join as a Volunteer Teacher with the Red Cross in Maine. This is an opportunity to share your knowledge, showcase your teaching abilities, and contribute to saving lives and property. All training is provided; you sign up for shifts and sessions that fit your schedule.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver and support disaster preparedness programs as a volunteer presenter, instructor, or assistant.
  • Engage audiences, present information clearly, and encourage participant involvement.
  • Assist with program setup, materials, and administrative tasks as needed to ensure smooth sessions.
  • Represent the Red Cross with professionalism and positivity in all interactions.
Programs

DISASTER AND EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS FOR YOUTH

Save lives and prevent injury through The Pillowcase Project. The 40- or 60-minute presentation provides emergency preparedness education to youth in grades 3-5 (ages 8-11) in school classrooms and other settings. Tools include a standardized curriculum, workbook, quizzes and activities designed with curriculum and hazard experts. Presenters may have roles as a presenter, presentation assistant, administrative support, or presenter trainer.

DISASTER AND EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS FOR ADULTS

Be Red Cross Ready teaches people how to prepare for and respond to disasters in their community. Participants in Hands Only CPR learn how to check for consciousness, call 911, and give chest compressions. Ready Rating helps businesses, schools, and organizations become better prepared. All of these are led by volunteer Presenters and Assistants.

Qualifications
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills; comfortable teaching and presenting to diverse audiences.
  • Ability to work with youth and/or adults in community settings.
  • Willingness to complete Red Cross training and follow program guidelines.
