Examples of DutiesThe overall purpose of this job is to assist in the basic food preparation and service of meals.
Duties and Responsibilities- Serve and maintain food quantities for large numbers of people
- Assist with general cleaning chores in the dining area and kitchen
- Set up, break down and maintain independent serveries
- Provide assistance with catered functions
- Provide guidance to student employees
- Be well groomed and wear the proper issued uniform
- Assist with stocking as requested
- Participate in training, as well as other departmental function requirements
- Other duties as requested
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
- Knowledge and experience applying basic culinary techniques.
- Ability to operate and maintain production equipment.
- Basic knife skills, and the ability to grill, sauté, roast, broil, and fry food.
- Knowledge of proper/safe time and temperature for food handling.
- Ability to operate small kitchen equipment, including robo‑coup, mandolin, mixers, immersion blenders, potato peeler, etc.
- Must have good customer service skills.
- Ability to work well independently as well as within a team.
- Serve‑Safe Certified or the ability to become certified.
High school diploma or equivalent required.
ExperienceSix months culinary experience preferred.
Physical DemandsWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to continuously stand and walk, frequently balance and stoop, and occasionally sit, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach and work overhead, climb stairs and ladders (up to 6 feet in height), lift and carry 50 pounds, talk, and use hands to finger, handle, and/or feel. The employee is also required to occasionally push and pull equipment on wheels that weighs up to 150 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
