Being a nurse is more than a job, it’s a calling. SSM Health offers a Nurse Residency Program for new graduate nurses to enhance confidence, knowledge, and practical skills. The residency includes monthly four-hour virtual sessions over a twelve-month period.
Pre-licensure graduate of an accredited nursing program who actively participates in the SSM Health New Graduate Nurse Residency Program. Under the direction of an RN, provides care to patients within the scope of the role and professional standards. Delivers age-appropriate care for patients with a wide variety of medical conditions. Nurse Residents in Oklahoma may perform responsibilities designated below (Oklahoma). Nurse Residents in Wisconsin, Illinois and Missouri can perform all listed responsibilities.
PrimaryResponsibilities
- Under the direction of the RN Preceptor: perform delegated tasks based on demonstrated competence in nursing care activities. In Oklahoma, this does not include tasks that must be performed by a licensed nurse.
- Perform patient assessments including biophysical, psychosocial, spiritual, cultural, and age-appropriate needs; assess nutrition, pain management, and signs of abuse or neglect to develop, evaluate, and modify the patient’s plan of care.
- Develop an education plan for patients and families and provide health education and coaching.
- Complete accurate and timely documentation (Oklahoma) including processing physician orders in accordance with policies. Monitor and evaluate delivery of nursing care by team members.
- Collaborate with physicians and other health care professionals regarding patient care.
- Participate in training to understand and perform patient care (Oklahoma).
- Complete competency requirements (Oklahoma) and required training; seek assistance and ask questions as needed (Oklahoma).
- Demonstrate professional nursing standards defined in the professional practice model and use the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses to guide responses to patient needs (Oklahoma).
- Maintain alertness and safety in practice (Oklahoma). Perform other duties as assigned (Oklahoma).
- Graduate of accredited school of nursing or education equivalency for licensing
- For Illinois: official passing score on NCLEX results
- No experience required
