- Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Materials Science & Engineering, Welding Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering with materials emphasis, or equivalent.
- Strong theoretical understanding of metallurgy, microstructure, phase transformations, fusion welding processes, and materials behavior—especially for both ferrous and non‑ferrous alloys.
- Familiarity with additive manufacturing processes (e.g., powder‑bed fusion, directed energy deposition), including powder handling, build parameter selection, post‑processing, heat treatment, and material qualification.
- Experience or coursework in process development, materials testing/characterization, microstructural analysis, non‑destructive testing (NDT), and mechanical testing.
- Ability to produce clear, detailed technical documentation (procedures, process specs, build plans, test reports, inspection records).
- Strong problem‑solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to collaborate across disciplines (design, manufacturing, QA, inspection, R&D).
- Hands‑on experience in welding or AM operations; knowledge of powder metallurgy, metallurgy of welds and AM builds, post‑build heat treatment, and quality assurance/inspection practices.
- Experience with CAD/CAM or process‑planning software, build‑simulation tools, specimen testing, or materials research.
- Good communication skills and ability to work with both engineering and production teams.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) security clearance.
- Experience working in an AM environment (R&D or production).
Base salary range: $80,000 – $101,000 per year. Total compensation may include an annual cash incentive and a full range of medical, retirement, and other benefits. Employment is at‑will unless subject to a collective bargaining agreement.
