Job SummaryThe Community Leader (CL) is a Gordon State College undergraduate student who serves as a member of the Housing and Residence Life team and is directly supervised by a Resident Director (RD). The CL is responsible for assessing and meeting the needs of approximately 18–30 residents, engaging in daily interactions, and fulfilling a range of duties that are equally weighted in performance evaluation.
The CL must uphold the College Student Code of Conduct, Guide to Highlander Living, Housing and Residence Life policies, and applicable civil law.
- Training:
Attend workshops, in‑service sessions, and staff meetings to develop competencies needed for a residential environment. - Duty:
Rotate on duty per schedule, including weekends; assist with Open House, Orientation, and Admissions/Housing Tours. - Reports & Paperwork:
Complete forms and reports accurately and on time. - Emergency Response:
Provide support as trained, report safety risks promptly. - Room Inspection:
Inspect rooms and common areas during health and safety rounds to ensure cleanliness and safety. - Check‑in/Check‑out:
Inspect rooms before and during move‑in/out, complete forms, and participate in building opening/closing responsibilities. - Staff Mail:
Check staff email daily for information and notices. - Office/Room
Hours:
Post open room hours on bulletin boards, keeping residents informed.
- Programming:
Plan, organize, and conduct activities that promote interpersonal, academic, and social skills; foster community in residence halls. - Policy Enforcement:
Know and enforce the Student Code of Conduct, Guide to Highlander Living, and Housing policies; report violations. - Resident Knowledge:
Build relationships with residents and familiarize yourself with their needs. - Security:
Address safety violations directly to maintain residence hall security. - Environment:
Encourage a study‑friendly environment and enhance academic programs. - Advisor & Counselor:
Advise residents on academic, social, and personal issues, individually and in groups.
- Academics:
Maintain a cumulative and semester GPA of 2.0 or higher (2.5 preferred). - Policies:
Adhere to Residence Hall policies and the College Code of Conduct. - Attitude:
Maintain a positive attitude toward the College and Residence Life Office; contribute to its improvement. - Balance:
Balance responsibilities as staff, student, leader, and family member.
- Communication:
Develop productive relationships with support/service staff, promoting high performance. - Support:
Participate in Residence Life or College committees, staff development, and team building as requested. - Feedback & Follow‑up:
Respond promptly to all issues and concerns within the residence halls.
- Registered as an undergraduate student at Gordon State College.
- Maintain a cumulative and semester GPA of at least 2.15.
- Good financial and judicial standing within the College.
