About Us

Founded in 1852, Gordon State College is a member of the University System of Georgia. The college offers nearly 30 degrees, including multiple associate and baccalaureate pathways. With an enrollment of over 3,100 students, GSC provides an intimate academic setting with state‑of‑the‑art classrooms and laboratories. Students receive individualized attention that only a small college with dedicated faculty and staff can provide.

Job Summary

This position is responsible for enforcing state and local laws as well as campus regulations and for protecting life and property for Gordon State College.

Responsibilities
  • Patrol to detect and deter crime and to offer assistance when needed.
  • Enforce parking regulations and issue citations.
  • Investigate suspicious activities or persons.
  • Check the security of buildings.
  • Prepare required reports.
  • Investigate traffic accidents and criminal or non‑criminal incidents.
  • Arrest individuals who have committed crimes.
  • Testify in court as required.
  • Provide assistance to motorists.
  • Respond to emergency incidents.
  • Provide security and traffic enforcement at special events.
  • Serve as a Campus Security Authority as defined by the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act).
  • Perform other related duties.
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must be POST (Peace Officer Standards and Training) certified or successfully complete State of Georgia mandated POST certification and comply with all POST requirements within one (1) year of employment.
  • Must possess a current, valid driver’s license and maintain a safe driving record.
  • Must be able to successfully pass the following background checks:
  • Position of Trust + Credit Check
  • Motor Vehicle Record
  • Physical Examination
  • Drug Testing
  • Psychological Evaluation
Preferred Qualifications

Experience with law enforcement or public safety agency beneficial.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Knowledge of modern law enforcement principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of community policing principles.
  • Knowledge of emergency preparedness, response and recovery principles.
  • Knowledge of public safety principles as related to college campuses.
  • Skill in the operation of computers and job related software programs.
  • Skill in the operation of specialized law enforcement equipment.
  • Skill in decision making and problem solving.
  • Skill in interpersonal relations and in dealing with the public.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.

Certified - $40,000
Non‑Certified - $38,000

This is a non‑exempt (hourly paid) position and includes a comprehensive benefits package. Employment offer is contingent upon completing a background investigation including a criminal background check demonstrating your employment eligibility with Gordon State College, as determined by Gordon State College in its sole discretion, confirmation of the credentials and employment history reflected in your application material and, if applicable, a satisfactory credit check.
