Are you a caring and dedicated Learning Support Assistant looking for a rewarding role supporting a student on a one-to-one basis?

Teach Now is working with a welcoming and inclusive secondary school in Barnet to recruit a 1:1 Learning Support Assistant to support a Year 10 student from September 2026. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about helping young people build confidence, overcome barriers to learning and thrive during the important transition into secondary education.

Whether youre an experienced Teaching Assistant or looking to develop a career in education, SEND or child psychology, this role offers valuable experience within a supportive school environment.

The Role

Working closely with teaching staff and the schools SEND team, you will provide dedicated one-to-one support throughout the school day, helping your assigned student access learning and achieve their full potential.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Providing consistent 1:1 support for a Year 10 student in lessons

• Adapting learning activities to meet individual needs and learning styles

• Encouraging independence, confidence and engagement

• Supporting social, emotional and academic development

• Promoting positive behaviour and helping the student remain focused in class

• Building a trusting and supportive relationship with the student

• Working collaboratively with teachers, the SEND department and parents where appropriate

• Contributing to a safe, inclusive and nurturing learning environment

• Patient, caring and committed to supporting young people

• Confident communicating with students, staff and families

• Calm, resilient and proactive in their approach

• Passionate about inclusion and helping every student succeed

Essential Requirements

• Experience working with children or young people in a school, youth work, coaching, mentoring or similar setting

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

• A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children

• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)

Desirable

• Experience supporting students with SEND

• Knowledge of autism, ADHD or other additional learning needs

• An interest in teaching, educational psychology or another education-related career
