About the Role Teach Now is recruiting an engaging and knowledgeable English Teacher for a secondary school in Barnet from September. The English department is looking for a teacher who can inspire students to become confident readers, writers and critical thinkers. You will predominantly teach across KS3 and KS4, delivering a broad curriculum covering literature, language, creative writing and analytical skills.

The role would suit a teacher who combines secure subject knowledge with strong classroom management and knows how to make challenging texts accessible and relevant to a wide range of learners.

  • Plan and deliver high-quality English lessons across KS3 and KS4.
  • Prepare students effectively for GCSE English Language and Literature.
  • Develop students’ reading, writing and analytical skills.
  • Use assessment data to identify gaps and plan appropriate intervention.
  • Provide clear and constructive feedback.
  • Differentiates effectively for SEND, EAL and higher-attaining students.
  • Maintain high standards of behaviour and classroom routines.
  • Contribute to departmental planning and curriculum development.
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
  • Degree or strong academic background in English or a closely related subject.
  • Experience teaching English within a UK secondary school.
  • Strong understanding of the KS3 and GCSE English curriculum.
  • Confident behaviour-management skills.
  • Commitment to raising achievement for pupils of all abilities.
  • A collaborative English department.
  • Established schemes of work and curriculum resources.
  • Support from experienced subject and senior leaders.
  • Opportunities to contribute to literacy across the school.
  • Continued professional development.

Salary will be determined by qualifications, experience and position on the appropriate teacher pay scale.
