About the Directorate

The Assurance and Public Protection directorate ensures democratic accountability of council services. The directorate work together to monitor and ensure compliance and provide assurance of Barnet being an engaged and effective council that protects the public purse. They provide enforcement services that engage and protect residents and businesses to support a safer and healthier borough. In the Assurance and Public Protection directorate, we are committed to the work we do and the difference we make to residents and customers of Barnet every single day.

These are place-based roles, which require officers to primarily work from Barnet Council offices in Colindale or other locations across the borough.

Public Health & Noise Nuisance Officer

As a Public Health & Noise Nuisance Officer, you’ll play a vital role in:

  • Responding to and investigating service requests, primarily around noise and nuisance, while tackling other environmental concerns.
  • Using your expertise to advise, assist, and enforce legal standards under key legislation such as the Environmental Protection Act 1990 and Control of Pollution Act 1974.
  • Conducting site visits, gathering evidence, and preparing legal notices to uphold community safety.
  • Participating in our out-of-hours service on a rota basis (with additional pay).
