Regulatory Services at Barnsley protect the health, safety and well‑being of those who live, work in and visit the borough, enabling local businesses to comply with their regulatory responsibilities. As an Environmental Health Officer working within the Food Team, you will primarily specialise in the area of inspecting food premises, investigating food hygiene complaints, giving advice and guidance to businesses, sampling and investigating infectious disease outbreaks.

What you’ll needYou will need a Level 6 degree in Environmental Health (or MSc in Environmental Health) and the Certificate of Registration with the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health Registration Board.
A recognised qualification relevant to the work of the team will unlock higher level positions. Knowledge of regulatory services and food hygiene legislation is essential.
