SEN Teacher - Communication & Interaction Setting (ASAP Start)

Location: Barnsley
Contract: Full-time, long-term (with potential to become permanent)
Start Date: ASAP

A specialist provision in Barnsley is seeking a passionate and skilled SEN Teacher to join their dedicated team. This full-time role involves teaching within Hive 3, supporting pupils who are working at approximately Year 1 to Year 2 levels and who have a range of communication and interaction needs.

About the Role

You will be working with pupils with varied and complex needs, including:

  • Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
  • Pre-verbal or non-verbal communication
  • Intensive interaction approaches
  • PECS and other visual communication systems

The successful candidate will play an integral role in creating a calm, structured, and nurturing learning environment where children can develop both academically and socially. For a strong candidate, this position may lead to a permanent post

Essential Requirements

Applicants must have:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification
  • Proven experience in a special educational needs environment
    , ideally within a communication and interaction-focused setting
  • Strong understanding of SEND strategies and differentiated learning
  • Experience supporting pupils with ASD and communication needs
  • Confidence using PECS, intensive interaction, and similar approaches
  • A patient, consistent, and positive approach to teaching
Desirable Experience

Although not essential, it would be advantageous if candidates have:

  • Subject leadership experience
  • Experience contributing to or leading an aspect of school improvement
